  1. Branding and Identity

  3. Publishing and Editorial
  4. Information & Way finding

Branding and Identity

Old Parkland

I managed to stumble across these on Pinterest and I am overwhelmed at how beautiful these are. The photography is exceptional too which I always like to see.
'...We create. We bring things to life. There is necessarily risk involved in such heady business. The result is invariably difficult to predict, to determine whether lightening will strike and life will be breathed. This isn't to say there is no method to the madness, but instead that we allow brands to take shape on their own rather than imposing our ideas on them...' - tractorbeam.com/Agency

Imprimerie Du Marais

I love this sort of retro design as it really stands out from modern day design. The simplicity is what I think I like most about it and the stamp. Creating your very own stamp is something I very much want to look into. Again, Photography is perfect and the layout of the products is spot on perfect. I got to the facebook strangely after following the many links but then decided to check out their actual website which is a piece of art itself. Amazing webdesign.

Katearends

Here are some invitations designed for a couples wedding day. I admire the de-saturated colours and the embossing has worked brilliantly. The invitations have such a nice warmly feeling to them which makes the fact you are being invited....really warm! '...Wit + Delight is run by Kate Arends, a graphic designer from Minneapolis with a serious love of hip-hop, avocados, dangerous footwear and estate sales...'. From this I can only guess that she designed them but I can't be sure as there is a team at these studios.

Theory11

Monarchs is a deck of Casino Quality playing cards produced by Theory11. The colours chosen are extremely high end and connote wealth and royalty which to any member of the audience makes this piece of design very attractive. It makes it seem very important even when you have no idea what it is in the first place. You just want to own it. The embossing looks nice too.

Velcrosuit : Adam Hill

'...I was approached to rebrand Mad Brew Productions, a live music events company. In the initial stages of briefing I was informed that the company would be looking at branching into other offerings: Media, consisting of photography and music videos as well as Interiors offering.
The client loved the aesthetic of a traveling Victorian salesman and the concept of one entity 'wearing many hats' was used to neatly package the three brands together....' - Mad-Brew

Adam Hill is the designer behind these designs but I can't find any information on him which is quite  unfortunate. In terms of layout for the logo everything works fine. The logo has a very retro and old fashion effect which I respect because its quite nice to see something a little diffrent. I don't quite know why but it makes the Mad brew seem very professional. I admire the layout, use of colour and the fonts use on the back. It simply works so well and despite the mass of information given nothing is un-legible.

I like this a lot. Old design always attracts my attention but it seems like its very hard way of designing to accomplish as the logos and illustrations have been drawn by hand which unfortunately I am not the best at. I like the cork and the nicely tied string to keep it in place.

Jagermeister Carton

The one thing I don't like about Designsiration is you can never find the designer behind a peice of work. For example, I have no idea who has done this but I'm sure theres a whole project behind it that I would love to read up on. I think this works so well is because its a heavy alcoholic drink in a carton we expect fruit juices and milk to go in. So it seems very unconventional but at the same time we ignore that and admire what we are looking at!

The Creative Method

The second example is trules amazing. It has been put through a laser cutter of some sort so cut the wood more more interesting is the fact the wood is bent to fit the shape of the bottle. I have no idea how this has been done! When you zoom in you can see how fine the cut has been and how much time and effort have gone into making this. The first example is the wine bag the bottle goes in a I like how pure and fresh it feels, almost like its eco-friendly.

Modern Home Design

Here are some nice small packets for biscuits. Notice how the string plays a vital role in keeping everything together and thats something I want to pay attention to when it comes to making my packaging. An artists name is not mentioned but I quite like the net for these packages.

Publishing and Editorial

Paperlux

I'm struggling to understand what is actually going on with this book, It looks like it falls apart like a puzzle but I'm not sure for what reason. Maybe there is information on these puzzle pieces that could be handed out I'm not to sure. It looks like once you peel off one puzzle piece you can't put it back on so how does this work!? I'm not having a go at this design as it does interest me and I have never seen anything like it.

The Flame Alphabet

I quite like this design as it reminds me a bit of some of the work I produced last year. Using card, hand rendering. I'm not sure I like the text side of this design though. When I say that I also mean the white card, its way to bold for this design. I would probably go for a red with a white text or the blue with a white text.

Eye Magazine Example 1

Eye Magazine Example 2

This is the first time I have come across 'Eye' magazine. 'Eye is the world’s most beautiful and collectable graphic design journal, published quarterly for professional designers, students and anyone interested in critical, informed writing about design and visual culture...'. The layout is simple, legible and bold. Thats what I most like about it. It lets the design do the talking rather than the text. Which gives the magazine a nice straight forward calm feeling.

Novum 11/11

This has to be one of the most inspirational videos I have watched for a while now. I find it fascinating that this sort of design is possible and I would love to own my own copy. One thing I love is documentation. I like making as movie of something in action, something happening like the making of a magazine for example. There is one very similar to this and its called 'The Black Swan Issue" featuring David Carson. Novum 11/11: "Idea & Design – Carolin Rauen & Max Kuehne. Direction – Max Kuehne, Filming & Cutting – Zaky Ziegler. Special thanks to: Printarena - Eurodruck, Iggesund, Jeurink Stanzformtechnik, Emag - Papierveredelung...'

Information & Way finding

Accenture Fenchurch St

Simple wayfinding like this I find sensible and nice to look it. You just understand what your looking at and you don't get anything distracting you which is very important when it comes to this kind of design.

Barn

Using colour is antoher great way of making way finding an easier 'activity' (?) to take part in. When it come to designing way finding its all about making it simple, legible and VERY easy to understand. This one above has the best of both worlds as it looks nice and its very simple to understand! Obviously the signs are telling the customer what floor everything is on

 Ralston & Bau

I have always liked the idea of coloured lines that go from the sign all the way to the location. In Tunbridge Wells the new hospital has recently just been built. Inside they have coloured lines that will lead you say from reception all the way the x-ray. Its such a good idea, I suppose it might be a-bit to obvious and might be quite annoying. Sort of too in your face. The example above looks like these lines go along the wall to the location. The lines look rather thick. May these lines interfere with the interior design? There are many things you could discuss when it comes to this sort of wayfinding.

Mike & Maaike

Semiotics is something I take an interest in as I like how we can like a pictogram to meaning. Great example is what we have above; The male and female pictogram for toilets: Even though there is no text to read we have come to a global agreement that that means toilet.

Axel Peemoeller

This is amazing but I think a bit over the top. You can only see what it says from one angle and from any other angle it almost gives you a head ache. Its not really something that you could see in every single car park in the world as it is quite random.
