Context of Practise// Promotional Poster Secondary Research

The Prince of Mist

I decided the best thing to do was to research into promotional posters for books. Didn't go to well on most of the blogs and websites I looked at for inspiration so I had a go on google images and found this with many other examples. It's made me realise that my book isn't really a book...its more a small magazine booklet type publication. This poster above isn't very visually pleasing. The text and imagery is rather dull. Theres loads of text which I of course understand, it's a poster for a book with a story, the audience need to read a large amount of text to get an idea what the book is about. On the other hand from just looking at it without looking at or reading the text I get the idea it is a some sort of thriller or dark drama. I need to locate some posters made for magazines, events etc. This way I will be able to find some inspiration that relates to my publication.

I've decided to talk about this piece and how it can relate to my promotional poster because of all the visuals it has. Similar to my book, I have used a lot of visuals to make my book easier to understand. What draws me into the poster is all the visuals scattered across it. However, its not 100% clear what the poster is trying to advertise or show the audience. The poster is advertising a company that (probably) specialises in designing professional posters. On thing I am not to keen on is how busy it is, its very image and text heavy and theres nowhere really to start from. However, it was the illustrations that drew me to this poster. Thats something I should work on with mine.
