Responsive// 'Wind in the Willows" Cover Design Research

The job this cover is to appeal to a young audience but also appeal to an older audience. This could be quite tricky. The brief also says to work with type not image. I managed to find a design for this 2013 competition which I guess is quite useful, shame that its on the internet already. Must suck to be that designer. However, it gives ma good chance to see what I might be up against, who knows, people might got on to use this as their main source of matieral. Something I will defiantly not do.

Reuben Alghali

Overall a beautiful design with great potential. I thank Lorene when I say this but there is an error on this book cover. Whilst designing my Design for Print info pack, Lorene taught me about the dreaded 'Widower'. The Widower is when a letter is left out in the open by itself and it makes a paragraph of text look some what wrong. Look at the third line of the main bulk of text, after Ratty there is a single 'a' after the comer. This is a widower. Going back to the design of the cover, I mainly like the triangles of colour which obviously represent the seasons and the countryside. I'm not too keen on the font used for the main title. This seems to be a style of font designers are using a lot now.

Stephanie Layton

This design by Stephanie Layton I came across by chance and has got me thinking about possible design ideas. From first glance it does appear to me to be expectable as a cover for a children's book. The colours and illustration remind me strangely of the hungry hungry caterpillar.
